New Pipe Organ                                         Scheduled installation for October 2019

St. John’s Cathedral has commissioned a new pipe organ from Indianapolis organ builder Goulding & Wood. New twin cases on either side of the chancel will house the Great and Pedal divisions. Case carvings will include many decorative Gothic elements that echo existing architectural vocabulary found elsewhere in the chancel. A 16’ Pedal façade will stand in the Gospel transept in front of the chamber holding the Choir and Swell divisions. Two twin Antiphonal cases on the (liturgical) west wall will frame the Great Window. Musically, the organ fits broadly into the English accompanimental style of instrument with plenteous 8’ pitches, a wide variety of colors, and an expansive spectrum of dynamic effect. The seventy-rank organ will replace the 1957/1998 Schantz Organ. Installation is scheduled for October of 2019. In February Scott Dettra will play a dedicatory recital.
