Lay Readers Guild
Members of the Lay Readers Guild have a unique opportunity to participate actively in worship services by leading the congregation in liturgical and intercessory prayer as well as reading aloud the Lessons appointed for that day.The guild comprises both lay readers and lectors who serve at Sunday worship services along with officiating at weekday Morning Prayer services in the chapel. Often lay readers also serve as chalice bearers during the Eucharist.
New members are recruited annually and complete 16 hours of training over a six-month period whereupon they are licensed by the Bishop. A clear speaking voice and a commitment to read when scheduled are important attributes for a lay reader.
