The Brotherhood of St. Andrew
Brotherhood of St. Andrew MeetingsInformation about the Brotherhood
Members of the Brotherhood say their bond of friendship is the greatest advantage of membership.
The Brotherhood adheres to three tenets: prayer, study, and service. Begun in Chicago in 1883, and at St. John’s in 1998, the Brotherhood is a ministry for spreading the Word of Christ’s Kingdom among men and boys in the Episcopal church and the Anglican Community.
This service-based group has many projects. Among them are: an advent wreath program for St. John’s home bound parishioners; a college scholarship program for entering freshmen among St. John’s congregation; providing dinner for those attending the Sunday night programs at Tyson House Student Center, and many others. They collect funds from donations for meals they prepare for different events, such as Hot Summer Nights and the Shrove Tuesday Supper. Their ministry, 'Holy Smokin', Friars for Hire', does on-site catering with the proceeds going to the charities they support. They have regular dinner meetings, during which they make time for faith study, discussion, intentional prayer, and just plain fun!
Membership involves national dues of $30 and local dues of $40 annually. All men of the parish are welcome.
