A Servant's Heart: Kimberly Kertis...Staying Connected

When you live at a distance from your home church, how do you stay connected to your parish family? For Kimberly Kertis, it is primarily through sharing her creative talents. When Kimberly gets to church, she usually attends the 8:00 am Sunday service and then serves in the Cathedral office as a volunteer for the remainder of the morning. If you stop by the office on one of those Sundays, you’ll likely find her elbow deep in a project of knitting, embroidery, needlepoint, or repairing and maintaining vestments. Have you ever noticed the beautiful goldwork fleur de lis hanging outside of Room 7? That’s another of the many ways that Kimberly has supported our parish. “Over time I’ve learned, there are many ways to participate in the community; one of which is sharing my needlework,” says Kimberly. One ongoing project is creating new linens for the Altar Guild. In fact, she and Rick Boyd are planning a Lenten class at St. John’s which will focus on techniques needed to create a variety of altar linens such as the purificators and Fair Linens Kimberly has been making. If you’d like information about the class, please contact Kimberly or Rick Boyd.
