Congratulations, Garrett and Amanda Johnson

July 1, 2015

Garrett Johnson, son of Jeff and Lyn Johnson, grew up at St. John’s Cathedral and was in one of the earliest graduating classes of Episcopal School of Knoxville. It was at the school years later (2009) while assisting the coach of ESK’s football team that Garrett would meet Amanda Meade; she was working in the school’s aftercare program. Garrett was also working with the youth program at St. John’s at the time and he and Amanda were both asked to chaperone a youth event at the Cathedral the following February. It was during a conversation at this event that the two discovered an amazing shared story – both Garrett and Amanda were adopted as infants. Not only adopted, but their parents had met during the pre-adoption phase and adopted their children through the same agency. This revelation led to a first date and the rest, as they say, is history. Garrett and Amanda, after a year-long engagement, were married at St. John’s on May 30. If you’d like to read more about their sweet journey, the News Sentinel featured their story in their Sunday Spotlight section on June 21, 2015, in an article entitled, Beautiful Beginnings: Belonging together.
