Anne Sprouse, One of Knox News Sentinel's 2015 Health Care Heroes

In the September 7 edition of the Knoxville News Sentinel, St. John’s parishioner Anne Sprouse was named among Business Journal’s 2015 Health Care Heroes. Anne is a chaplain at UT Medical Center in the Cancer Institute. As a staff chaplain, Anne is also on-call to respond to emergencies. At the hospital, Anne serves on the community advisory and steering committees. Many at the Cathedral know her as a Chapter member, lay reader and chalice bearer, as well as a lay leader in the Thursday healing ministry along with Jerry Askew and Bob Sullivan.

In the article, the author quotes Dr. John Bell, Director of the Cancer Institute at UT Medical Center. In his nomination of Anne as a Health Care Hero he is quoted saying, “In her ‘no nonsense’ and level-headed approach, she puts patients and their families at ease from the moment she greets them. If they want to pray, they pray. If they want to cry, they cry. Whatever the need, physical, emotional, or spiritual, Anne is there to support patients, families and providers.” The entire article is a fitting tribute to those in our local medical community, honoring their gifts of healing and support.

If you’d like to read the portion about Anne you can find it on-line at Or come by the Cathedral Office to read our copy. (Ref: Article by Laura Ayo, Journal Media Group, posted Sep 7, 2015)
