Volunteer Ministry Center Case Manager Dyrl Higdon Honored at "Carry The Torch" Luncheon

In April the Volunteer Ministry Center’s (VMC) signature fundraiser, Carry the Torch, was held at the Convention Center. Emmy award winning anchor and author, John Quiñones, was the featured speaker. St. John’s has been a major contributor to the VMC since its inception. One of the ways the Cathedral supports VMC is through the sponsorship of one of their dedicated case managers, Dyrl Higdon. He has been with the VMC for 10 ½ years and loves being able to impact a change in people’s lives. In an interview with Mary Beth Ramey, Dyrl was asked what gives him satisfaction. His reply, “Seeing people getting their worth and self-respect back and regaining control of their lives.” Dyrl encapsulates the values of this invaluable downtown ministry to our homeless and near-homeless neighbors, and that is one of many reasons he was honored at this year’s luncheon with the Ginny Weatherstone Service Award.
