Parishioner Dr. Richard Gillespie Honored by LMU for Distinguished Service

At this year’s graduation of the LMU-DCOM class of 2016 doctors, Dr. Richard A. Gillespie, LMU board of trustee member, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award. According to the University, the award is presented to an individual who holds service to humanity close to his heart and who has had a significant impact on the health and wellness of those within both the Appalachian region and beyond.

Richard had a private practice at Fort Sanders Hospital and East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in anesthesiology. He joined the LMU Board of Trustees. Since LMU-DCOM opened its doors in 2007, Dr. Gillespie has promoted the institution to health care administrators, fellow physicians, colleagues and to promising students looking for their academic home. An article on the school’s website quotes Dr. Brian A. Kessler, vice president and dean of Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, “Dr. Gillespie’s passion for the health care education available at LMU extends beyond the medical school to include the Caylor School of Nursing, the School of Allied Health Sciences, and now, the College of Veterinary Medicine,” said Kessler. “Dr. Gillespie’s dedication to his alma mater, his expertise in health care and his interest in marketing have combined in recent years to make him a valued champion of LMU’s medical programs.”
