Congratulations to Parishioner Paul Brown

After teaching 40 years in Tennessee (39 of which were spent directing the Anderson County High School Band), Paul Brown has retired. The headline in the News Sentinel read “Exceptional Educator: Leader of the Band Retires” (See full article here: ).

Paul’s years of teaching have left their mark on countless young musicians; in fact, in May of this year more than 400 former and current students gathered to celebrate their band leader and mentor at a big party thrown in honor of his retirement. Leading a high school band includes far more than one might expect. Rehearsals for separate sections, choreography for marches (including competitions), planning and facilitating summer band camps, arranging transportation to games and competitions, and the list goes on.

With all of his professional responsibilities, Paul still has time to share his gifts and talents with his parish family. Paul and his wife Davia serve as Eucharistic Visitors, taking communion to ill and homebound parishioners. At one point the Browns were singing in the Cathedral Choir together, as well.
