Heather Stagg - Spiritual Director
Ever heard of a “spiritual director”? It is a practice that dates back to early Christianity when the director did just that – direct. However, in speaking with parishioner Heather Stagg, she prefers to define her role as more of a “spiritual friend”. After two years of intensive reading, multiple papers written, and intensives at Kanuga, Heather received her Certificate as a Spiritual Director from Haden Institute in North Carolina in January. She describes the practice as one of a shared journey, helping directees explore their questions of faith, their relationship with God, and suggesting various practices that may deepen their spirituality. Those practices, like spiritual directors, are not a one-size-fits-all approach to your own spiritual growth, but Heather’s ministry is offered openly to all. She knows other certified directors in the area if you’d like to talk with more than one to find the person you feel would be of the most help to your journey.
Heather has always been aware of the need most people have for someone to listen to them. Her care for people and their stories harkens back to the 43 years she worked as a nurse. Now that she is retired Heather has time to help others as they seek to deepen their spiritual lives. How often and how long depends on the individual’s need, be it to draw more closely to God, more fully understand what you believe, or for discernment of your own faith journey, incorporating all the practices of faith – meditation, contemplation, examination, and simplification. There is space at the Cathedral for you and Heather to meet and talk. Please contact her at 865-300-7224 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
