Our next Evensong of the Fall will be held on Sunday, November 7th celebrating All Saints Please note the new timing listed above. In celebration of the new organ, each Evensong will feature a guest organist to offer a Prelude Recital at 4:45 pm. On the 7th, we welcome Alvin Blount as our guest organist. Alvin is the organist/choirmaster of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, and is pursuing a Master's degree in library science at UT. Alvin will be presenting a wide-ranging program of pieces sure to delight! We invite you and your guests to join us for this meditative Sunday evening service. In-person attendance and LIVE YouTube stream are both available for this St. John's event.
What is Evensong?

Choral Evensong grew out of the monastic tradition of chanting psalms and praying as a community several times each day. At the time of the creation of the first Anglican Book of Common Prayer, the monastic offices of Vespers and Compline were combined to form Evening Prayer. The convention of singing the service led to the name Evensong (as in Evening Prayer Sung). The service is unique to English cathedrals and collegiate choirs, a tradition that continues to thrive and develop. This contemplative service opens a window into the eternal through the lens of music. A mystical encounter with the sacred finds its voice in the English choral tradition.
